Russian text to speech, where one stressed syllable can change the word

Russian is written in Cyrillic, and everyday text does not mark which syllable is stressed, even though stress can change the meaning, as in за́мок (castle) and замо́к (lock). Many texts also print ё as plain е, which hides the difference between words such as все (all) and всё (everything). Russian voiceovers are common for YouTube channels, e-learning, audiobooks, product videos and corporate training.

Standard Russian, based on Moscow pronunciation, is the norm for news and narration, and regional differences are relatively small, such as the softer, fricative г of some southern speakers. The choice between formal вы and casual ты often matters more: вы suits business, support and training content, while ты fits vlogs and content for younger audiences. Preview a voice on a few lines of your own script to check that its pace and tone suit your project.

Three sentences to try in the preview

Утром в городе было тихо и спокойно.

In the morning, the city was quiet and calm.

Listen for: Listen to спокойно, which should sound close to “spa-KOY-na”, because Russian reduces unstressed о toward an “a” sound.

Вы уже видели новое расписание?

Have you seen the new schedule yet?

Listen for: With no question word and the same word order as a statement, only intonation makes this a question, so listen for a sharp pitch rise on the stressed syllable of видели.

Ещё раз проверьте всё перед отправкой.

Check everything once more before sending.

Listen for: Check that ещё and всё carry their stress on ё, an “o” sound; printed with plain е, всё would look like все, “all”.

Russian text to speech

Frequently asked questions

Russian is normally written without stress marks, so preview your script as it is first. If a word comes out stressed on the wrong syllable, try adding an acute accent over the stressed vowel, as in замо́к, or save a custom pronunciation in Listnr Studio, then regenerate that block.

It is optional in most everyday Russian, and many printed texts replace ё with е, but writing it removes doubt in pairs such as небо (sky) and нёбо (palate). Use ё consistently in your script and preview the passage before generating the full voiceover.

That is normal Russian pronunciation: unstressed о is reduced toward “a”, and voiced consonants such as б and д sound like п and т at the end of a word, so молоко sounds like “malako” and хлеб like “khlep”. Check that the stress is right first, since it decides which vowels are reduced; if a word still sounds wrong, save a custom pronunciation in Listnr Studio.

Text to Speech converts written text into spoken audio. Listnr uses neural models to read punctuation, context, and pacing so the result sounds closer to a finished production take than a robotic readout.

Paste a script in Listnr Studio, choose a voice, optionally add style or pause cues, then generate. The model analyzes the text and produces natural-sounding speech you can preview and export.
