Arabic voiceover guide
Arabic is written right to left in a cursive script whose letters change shape with their position in a word, and everyday text leaves out the short vowels, which readers supply from grammar and context. Modern Standard Arabic, or fusha, is the shared written language behind news bulletins, documentaries, e-learning courses, corporate videos and audiobooks across the Arab world.
Spoken Arabic varies widely, and dialects such as Egyptian, Levantine, Gulf and Maghrebi Arabic differ from Modern Standard Arabic and from one another in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Regional habits can carry into fusha as well: ج sounds like the j in “jam” for many speakers, closer to the s in “measure” in much of the Levant and North Africa, and like a hard g in Egypt. Preview a voice on a paragraph of your own script to check that its pronunciation and register suit your audience.

Listen for: Listen for the sun and moon letters: the l of the article al- blends into the sh of الشمس (ash-shams) but is clearly heard in القمر (al-qamar).
هل يمكنك إرسال التقرير قبل نهاية اليوم؟
Can you send the report before the end of the day?
Listen for: Check the ending of يمكنك: without tashkeel it can be read as yumkinuka (to a man) or yumkinuki (to a woman), so make sure it suits your listener.

Arabic text to speech
Not to every word: Arabic is normally written without short-vowel marks, and full tashkeel is mostly kept for religious texts, poetry and children's books. Preview your script and listen closely to words with more than one reading, such as علم, which can be ilm (“knowledge”) or alam (“flag”). If one is read the wrong way, try adding tashkeel to that word only, or save a custom pronunciation for it in Listnr Studio.
Use Modern Standard Arabic for news-style narration, e-learning, documentaries and content meant for several countries. A dialect such as Egyptian or Gulf Arabic can feel more natural in ads, social videos and content for a single market, but dialects have no fixed spelling, so preview a short passage before generating the full voiceover.
Arabic number words change with the gender of the counted noun and with grammatical case, so the same digits can be read in more than one form. Preview any line with numbers, dates or prices, and if a figure is read in a form you do not want, write it out in words exactly as it should be said.
Text to Speech converts written text into spoken audio. Listnr uses neural models to read punctuation, context, and pacing so the result sounds closer to a finished production take than a robotic readout.
Paste a script in Listnr Studio, choose a voice, optionally add style or pause cues, then generate. The model analyzes the text and produces natural-sounding speech you can preview and export.
